Crack a toe? AGHHHHH!
I should add foam padding at foot-level to every hard surface in my house.
Got up to use the restroom on Sunday night, and proceeded to slam my right foot into the kerosene heater (which weighs about 30 pounds and is built like a sack of iron). Not at all like stubbing my toe, this HURT. I applied ice and elevated it, and took some ibuprofen, but the next day the fourth digit was a bit swollen (swollen and red at the 4th proximal phalange and slight bruising at the 3rd and 4th metatarsal) and still hurt to walk on it. I went in to have it x-rayed, but nothing was visible on the shots. The doc said it's probably a hairline fracture as those are hard to see even if you have the angle just right. He prescribed what I assume are some anti-inflammatories and gave me some stuff to tape it up.
I'm trying to stay off it, but there's nowhere to elevate it at work and I do have to walk around quite a bit. I'm hoping it heals up in a couple weeks before my trip to Singapore.

About two years ago I ripped my little toe completely away from the rest of my foot--(I caught it on the ironing board)and it just drifted out there totally disconnected as my whole toe area turned black. Pain? Yes. A lot. Uncle Ken told me to tape it to the rest of my foot, which I did for a while. It took about 3 months to heal totally. Fortunately it was summer so I didn't have to wear shoes. How are you managing this in the snow?

Big thick boots. They hurt.
It's not dislocated at all, so I have to worry less about that. Also it's the 4th digit and not the 5th, which I guess means it's bearing slightly less weight and is not as exposed. Still, I think I'm going to try to find a stick to lean on.

If it's cracked it should heal fairly fast, but you do need to keep the weight off it for a while or it won't be able to knit together. I'm glad you had it x-rayed. Don't they have crutches in Japan?

Hang in there, Jeff! The first days are the worse. I broke my baby toe last week (for the millionth time...I'd have been better off born without toes since I break them so often). It's already feeling much better. Try to keep them taped and wear the tight shoes only when necessary. You'll be just fine for your trip, but be careful not to overdo it until then...you'll have periods where they feel better, but if you go crazy, they'll remind you that they're hurt. Love ya lots!

If you go without shoes, the snow/cold will numb the pain, right?
Good thing I'm not a doctor. Hope it heals up in a timely manner!

Some frostbite will heal that right up for you :-p

It might not be a bad idea to try and order some of those special gel insoles from an American drug store website, that might relieve some stress on your foot, especially if you plan to be walking a lot through Singapore.

Spoken like a former helpful Osco employee, Ashley! That sounds like a good idea.

Ouch!! I can relate. Last September I broke #5 on my left foot when I hit it on my metal coffee table. Hope it heals quickly for your trip!
