Waterfall

I realize that I haven't posted photos in over two months, mostly because I simply haven't taken the time to go photograph things of interest. Now that the leaves are starting to change colors, one of the local new JETs has been trying to get me to go hiking and do outdoorsy stuff with her. (Aside: for some reason, the word "outdoorsy" is not flagged by my spell checker.) Saturday it was raining cats and dogs because of a typhoon, and therefore Sunday was crystal clear. She showed me the way to this fantastic local waterfall, and thankfully I brought my camera and the monopod I borrowed from John, because the lighting was pretty much near perfect. Again, Heather, thanks for dragging me out of my apartment. I think these photos made it worth the trip.

Afterwards, we drove up to a nearby lake, but by that time the sun was starting to set so I didn't bring my camera. A bit further up the mountains at the local dam, we stopped behind a family who had brought their three sheepdogs out for a walk! This was surprising because most dog owners in Japan keep small dogs. We chatted with the owners for a short time before driving back into town for a bite to eat.

Waterfall, slow exposure
Thanks, John, this shot wouldn't have been possible without the monopod.

Man fishing on a bridge
This guy and his buddies were fishing from the bridge. I don't think they caught anything though.

Yakurai waterfall photo number 2
I wonder if these plants were placed here to frame the waterfall perfectly?

Backlit insects over a waterfall
The sun started to set just on the other side of the rocks here, catching the insects (and the guy's fishing line) right in the spotlight. I like how this one turned out.

These are really good pictures. Be sure to click on the third one, which is really nice when enlarged. Jeff, we love to see pictures of your area. Remember 99.9% of the people reading your site every day have never been there and never will, so we want to see more of what you see every day. It's old to you, but new to us!
