how not to run a meeting
Right now I'm sitting in the school gym in a "PTA" meeting. Yes, it's Sunday. Yes, they had all the students come in for classes today. Now all the students have been sent home, and the "PTA" (of which maybe half are parents) are holding this mandatory meeting.
Everyone received a stack of paper, about 20 pages, containing the budget. Now someone is reading off each number straight off the tables. What a goddamn waste of time. There's enough bullshit here to fertilize every rice field in Miyagi.

I wonder if this is a legal requirement?

Meetings in industry are not any better...

Welcome to the life of a teacher! Even worse than budget meetings are the professional development sessions that are not only boring, but an insult to your intelligence, usually planned and taught by someone who hasn't seen the inside of a classroom in eons. I'd rather be grading papers, a task that I loathe!

Ditto to what Jennifer said.

yep.. we had a PTA day at my school this last weekend, too. it was saturday, though. but hey, i got monday off instead.
however, i did not have the misfortune to be made to sit through such the meeting. the teachers at my school are cool enough to realize that anything along those lines would be a complete waste of time.

I also agreed with Jennifer. I am so happy that I have been retired for almost three years. Your mom will be retired soon!
