that's what it's all about

Today I taught the fourth graders how to do the Hokey Pokey. And then they taught me a song called Niji (Rainbow), roughly equivalent to "The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow."

I always eat lunch with my students. They don't believe in feeding their kids grade F meat, so the cafeteria lunch tends to be pretty good. Today I ate fish, rice, vegetables, and soup. Somewhere in there I also solved the Towers of Hanoi puzzle for the principal. I dunno why.

deja vu: international festival

Last Sunday I went to an international festival hosted back at the kaikan in Sendai, via an invitation from an old friend of mine who is still going to Tohoku Uni. This was the same festival that happened a little less than two years ago. Same basic idea, really, what with the different foods from Thailand and Taiwan and India and such. Seeing people I thought had left the kaikan, if not the country, lent the party an air of surrealism. Nan-nan was still there (Lane will know exactly who I'm talking about) as well as Bijeta and Lois and several people whose names I had forgotten, along with quite a few @home members. Wound up chatting with a Belgian and a German about different kinds of beer-- hey, what else are you gonna talk about, right?

I didn't stay for the dance party this time... I was getting a bit tired and didn't feel like waiting another two hours, so I went home.

NHK doesn't suck

I was just thinking it's been awhile since I've seen a good action flick. I turn on the TV and what do you know but True Lies is on public TV! AND no commercials! Wow.

Strike that. There were commercials, but only every half hour. No bleeped out or censored scenes, but a couple seconds cut here and there for time considerations. Still amazing.

fast-forward
