Keep going

April 7th, 2004

In English you often hear people say, “Good luck.” In Japanese the phrase you say in situations like that is “Gambatte” which means “keep at it” or “keep trying your best.” I guess if you’ve got perseverance the rest just follows.

rant

April 1st, 2004

Some days here are just mentally draining and exhausting. Today is one.

Went to a food market again today. It’s horrible, being practically illiterate. I’m in a situation I’m unfamiliar with (grocery store) trying to find stuff where everythingis written differently, so that I can cook something that I have no idea what it tastes like.

As for kanji, the wonderful Chinese characters, ugh. Maybe I should give this up and study Korean. But I still need to be able to speak to people; otherwise it’s a moot point.
