I’m posting this from a lab workstation computer because I don’t have Internet yet. This means that unfortunately, you won’t see any images on this site until I can get an ISP. It also means that the keyboard has too much stuff on it. And the capslock key is stuck on so I’m holding down shift. Right now I’m looking at a wireless service that works across the nation, like a cell phone but flat rate (and a little more than twice dialup speeds).
I had a small incident getting my baggage here; turns out they couldn’t fit my bags on the small turboprop aircraft between here and Tokyo. But everything worked out well in the end.
Since I can’t upload a photo, I’ll try to paint you a picture with words instead.
They say that Sendai is the “city of trees” and it is quite aptly named. Everything is so green here. The streets are all very narrow–except for a couple main streets, everything is single-lane only. There are temples and shrines pretty much everywhere. You can tell that the city was built a long time ago, and the streets reflect this; sharp turns, steep grades in some places, and mirrors placed strategically in order to attempt to prevent accidents. I’m not sure how well it works.
More updates later, as soon as I can figure out how to get Internet….
